The Austerity Program

The Austerity Program are a self-described “punk band from New York City”. They consist of Thad Calabrese on bass, Justin Foley on guitar and vocals, and their drum machine. They play a caustic blend of metal-tinged post hardcore and noise rock, and have released two full length albums, 2007’s Black Madonna and 2014’s Beyond Calculation, as well as a couple of EPs.

Formerly with Hydra Head Records, they now release music through their own label, Controlled Burn Records. They have a slow release schedule due to keeping full time jobs. Thad is an associate professor at CUNY and teaches Accounting, Budgeting, Financial Analysis, and Financial Management for Nonprofit Organizations, while Justin works for a labor union.

They have stated on their biography “Our pace may be slow but we have no plans to stop, ever.” They are also most likely to break up due to an argument over macroeconomics.

Here’s where to find them.
