The Pipettes were a retro-styled British girl group launched in 2003. Backed by an all-male band called The Cassettes, their original lineup consisted of Rebecca “RiotBecki” Stephens, Julia Clark-Lowes, and Rose “Rosay” Elinor Douglas. Julia was replaced before their first album with Gwenno Saunders.

Their first album, 2006’s We Are The Pipettes, met with some success, with single “Your Kisses are Wasted On Me” making Top 40 in the UK.

Both RiotBecki and Rosay left the group in 2008, and the group recruited Ani Saunders (sister of Gwenno) and Anna McDonald, though McDonald left within a few months and was herself replaced by Beth Mburu-Bowie. Mburu-Bowie left shortly as well, and the tumult left their second full-length album, Earth Vs The Pipettes, sung solely by Gwenno and Ani Saunders.

Earth Vs The Pipettes, in 2010, was less successful than their debut in both critical and commercial reception. It was followed by a single called Boo Shuffle, but the band hasn’t been heard from since 2012.
