Kelvin Momo also known as Thato Kelvin Ledwaba, is a South African DJ, producer, and songwriter known as one of the key architects of “Private School Amapiano”, a smoother, jazz-inspired, soulful take on the genre defined by deep emotion, subtle grooves, and musical sophistication.

Born on the 9th of August, 1994 and raised in Diepkloof, Soweto, Kelvin was heavily influenced by his father’s love for jazz. That early exposure laid the foundation for a unique sound that blends soul, deep house, and layered storytelling, elevating Amapiano beyond dance music into a pure and heartfelt sonic artistry.

He gained national attention with his album Amukelani (2022) which was the predecessor to Ivy League (2021). Shortly after the release of Amukelani, His album, Kurhula (2023) won Best Amapiano Album at the South African Music Awards (SAMA), confirming his status as one of the genre’s leading producers.

Momo’s frequent collaborators include standout vocalists like Babalwa M, MaWhoo, MKeyz, Yallunder, and Makhanj, whose emotionally rich performances help bring his productions to life. Tracks like “Izono,” “Inyembezi,” “Ikhaya Lam,” “Langelihle,” and “Amalobolo” showcase his ability to create music that resonates on a spiritual level.

In 2025, he made history as the headline act for Red Bull Symphonic South Africa, performing his music live with a full orchestra , a groundbreaking moment that bridged classical instrumentation with Amapiano’s soulful roots.

Kelvin Momo continues to expand the boundaries of Amapiano with every release and performance, taking the genre into deeper, more expressive territory and inspiring a generation of producers to prioritize musicality, feeling, and authenticity.
