My feet are sinking through the ground

Drinking on kerbsides, failing our maths exams

They never taught me how to be

They never taught me how to treat you the way you deserved

Crying in cinemas, telling them you're proud

Before it swallows me up whole my feet are firmly on the ground

I'll see you in the ring I want to see you swing

And if it doesn’t leave a mark I'll be back for seconds

But my cheeks hurt

My tongue is tied

My guard is on the floor

And if this feels right

Then why should it need anything more

And you said that I should take bettеr care of myself

I'll get attachеd, won't watch my back, I'll never love again

But I think I'll be much better with you by my side

Brush-tongued and bleary-eyed

I'll bleach my hair, I'll take your photos off the wall

But when they stare I can't promise I won't fall

Chest binders, nose bleeds in bathroom stalls

No one told me pleasure tastes like metal

When will these affirmations make me feel sane again

I'm trying not to douse the wall with my brains

I can't find a way for us to be okay

But if you hold my hand like that maybe they'll stay away

And you said that I should take better care of myself

I'll get attached, won't watch my back, I'll never love again

But I think I'll be much better with you by my side

Brush-tongued and bleary-eyed

But my cheeks hurt

My tongue is tied

My guard is on the floor

And if this feels right

Then why should it need anything more
