Walking past the old school, empty now and boarded

Soon to be a forgotten memory

But I still hear the children if I listen very carefully

And if I close my eyes, I can see

And it gets me into thinking of the friends that used to be

Gets me thinking of the ones I miss the most

But all I hear now are the echoes of a time long past

All I ever see now is ghosts

Walking down the high street in my old hometown

Picturing how it used to be

The shops are standing empty, door signs saying "Closed"

The saddest site that you would ever see

No more butcher, no more baker standing at the doors

Greeting all the customers with a smile

And Mrs. Barker's coffee shop where we'd buy tea and toast

Now all I ever see is ghosts

And why, oh why, can't we just freeze a space in time?

And why does everything have to change?

It's not easy knowing that the world you once knew will fade away

And soon be just an old man's memory

Now there's nothing but ghosts here for me

I guess that I'm no different to those that came before

And to those now that are yet to be

A light that once shone brightly, soon to shine no more

I'll become someone else's memory

And will somebody hear me if they listen very carefully?

And if they close their eyes tightly, will they see?

Somewhere in their mind's eye will they recognise

The solitary ghost that is me, that is me
