Belladonna

Twenty seven miles out of Dallas

When the nightshade took my head

I was over, I was under, I was out of it

And the shakes were getting bad

When I told you I was killing the dream

Sleep took on a new meaning

Now I just lie awake

And I'm wondering what it means to me

There was blood in every headline

Every day a new atrocity

We had to get our big bellies full of red wine

Just to close those eyes a wink

And you would call but you could barely speak

So we’d just listen to each other breathe

You’d draw another breath

Never knowing what it means to me

Could almost swear I felt the air

Flow out of you and into me

How strange it is to feel anything

But now I’m eager to learn

And I don’t care if it's gonna hurt

I gotta be sure what it means to me

G-d put me on a train ride to Dallas

Cause that evil light keeps shining

Can you believe that folks out here are proud us?

Oh, you’ll believe in anything

Do you remember being seventeen

And always wondering what it takes to be seen?

Now I’m just wondering what it should mean to me

We would talk but we could hardly speak

We’d just find some choice lines to repeat

Each time I‘d feel less and less

Of what it means to me

I was scared

I overheard your prayer

To be this and nothing more

Than the nothingness

That you had once been before

But now I’m dying to learn

And I'll even wait my turn

To be sure what it means to be

Oh now I'm eager to learn

And I don't care if it's gonna hurt

I want to be sure what it means to be
