Jun Xin van Vugt, also known as Zyroi, is a rapidly improving rapper. He began his writing career in late May of 2021 and has already made several tracks with deep meaning, stories, wordplay, messages and compelling rhyme structures.
Jun is born in China and grew up in The Netherlands.

Jun is studying philosophy at Tilburg University.
As teen, he didn’t like literature or language so much and he wasn’t getting the best grades for language courses in school, but he did make minor poems for exercises or family.

Jun listens to all kinds of music and really likes singing. It first began at a young age with humming intro songs of tv shows or music from video games. Later, he became in love with drum & bass and liquid drumstep. Huge idol was and still is Rameses B.

After this, Zyroi his first big introduction to rap came and was from Epic Rap Battles of History and Watsky. He listened to the lyrics and learned many tracks, but this didn’t spark interest in writing just yet.
Meanwhile in this first rap period, he also invested a lot of time in Western pop on and off, Some of his favorites are The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Coldplay and Ariana Grande

After this period, he found himself another genre which he fell in love with: Urbano and Reggae. He’s an enormous fan of Bad Bunny, but also a fan of other greats like Anuel AA, Nicky Jam, Karol G and J Balvin.

At around May of 2021, Jun started to get back into hip hop again, listening to Eminem. It started with Eminem’s ‘Book of Rhymes’, which was in his playlist after listening to Eminem’s album ‘Music To Be Murdered By’ a few months before. He heard it again and it really caught his interest heavily. The wordplay, the rhyme flow, the punchlines. Then he found youtuber Knox Hill, who explained lyrics of rap songs. When he watched it, Jun learned that rap was something more than just making sentences with meaning. The 3rd factor that got him into rapping was one of his friends. They were talking about music, and his friend knew about his love for the drum & bass and Urbano and Reggae genre. When Jun asked what she listens to, she said rap and when Jun asked which her favorite songs were, she didn’t want to respond and said that he probably doesn’t care about lyrics. Being a big fan of music, this gave Jun a hit back and made him want to prove the opposite.
These three moments are what made Jun start off his rap career.

In his 2nd period of hiphop, the rapper began listening to and studying more greats. Mostly and with the most passion to Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. But also to rappers like Royce da 5'9", J Cole and Logic.

Zyroi has trained a lot with writing before writing full songs. He had three drills, which were learning new words, rhyming whole sentences and freestyle writing (lines, couplets, verses and ideas). Although this didn’t last for too long, it did build the groundwork of his skills.
The rapper’s work ethic is working when he feels like it. His most important criteria is keeping it fun. He can work for hours, or he can put it off for weeks. Choosing to get back to it and not forcing to keep going.
He also does (almost) everything himself. The music, the beats, the lyrics, recording, sound-effects, composing and cover art. Taking care of socials, making announcements, making the rhyme scheme videos, putting songs on and getting songs delivered to music services.

Zyroi’s themes and styles can already go into many directions. His debut song ‘Entering’ got compact rhyme schemes. ‘Gave Up Giving Up’ is a more happy and hopeful theme and got more abstract lines. ‘Depth’ is purely focused on lyrical skills, wordplay and punchlines. ‘Speechless’ got a serious message, a conversation and doubt as a theme. And ‘Starter Pistol’ is his first work with a music producer, Nøcturne.

It’s only the beginning and he already has a lot done and ready for the future to build up his rap career.
