YT

AKA: Oluwatola Joseph Fola-Alade, Tola Alade, YungTolz, TolaFolaa

Oluwatola Fola-Alade (born May 5, 2001), professionally known as YT, is an English rapper and record producer from Romford, London.

YT began making music as a teenager in 2016 under the moniker YungTolz. He began recording on GarageBand and voice memos while rapping on “type beats” found on YouTube. After getting accepted into the prestigious University of Oxford, he would further continue to release music. He has been consistently working with the likes of kwes e and Kare ever since.

His first big break came in 2021 with the release of “Arc'teryx”, which, according to YT himself, was followed by multiple record label deals, which he has all turned down, advocating for independence for artists, which he has gone in-depth on, on an interview for Kids Take Over:

I saw that song blew up at a very certain time and was related to a little trend on TikTok with the coats, a lot of it was not related to my music and artistry.
They were offering me crazy deals with big money upfront. I got offered £100,000 for “Arc'teryx” plus two singles, but I didn’t take those deals. I saw that, okay, you’ve signed with a label, they’ve got control over your music and they’d push you to make this type of song again.
You can’t recreate a moment like “Arc'teryx” like that.
You see that a lot of times artists having one big “TikTok song,” sign the first deal that comes their way and “song number two” and “song number three” don’t hit like that; they’ll owe their label, be left unrecruited, lose the momentum and lose their artistic autonomy.
I didn’t take any of those deals, went back to dropping on SoundCloud because I knew I needed a real, organic come-up on my own terms with an authentic fanbase and not just capitalise off that internet motion.

By 2023, by putting a spin on his own favourite sounds ranging from dark trap and jersey club to as far as bedroom pop, YT had become a notable figure in the UK’s underground rap scene with mixtape and EP releases such as Real Life, #SWAGRENAISSANCE and #STILLSWAGGIN. In whichever genre, his trademark lyrical creativity, witty punchlines and clever references can be found consistently throughout his catalogue.

2024 was YT’s most successful year, by having major collaborations, such as “Black & Tan” with Lancey Foux, “MVP” with Fimiguerrero and his single “Prada or Celine”.

On March 28, 2025, YT released his long-awaited mixtape, OI!, delivering both quality emotional songs and EDM-inspired hits.
