Youngs Teflon

AKA: Olujimi Aseru, Young One (UK), Jimi Aseru

Olujimi Aseru (born 1987), also known by the alias Jimmy Conway and professionally known as Youngs Teflon, is a critically acclaimed rapper from Brixton, South West London. Active for more than two decades, he has released over 20 mixtapes, and has collaborated with some of the scene’s biggest names including Giggs, Dave, Wretch 32 and KSI.

Under the stage name Young One (or Y.O for short), Aseru began his career in the early 2000s as a grime MC in the local crew N Double A, led by Big Narstie, L Dot Man and Solo. He was scouted by them due to his popularity performing at ‘Top Boy’ parties, and represented the crew on multiple singles including 2005’s “Monsta Riddim”, “8 Bar Merk” and “Startrack Riddim”.

Aseru later repositioned himself as a solo artist and stalwart of the UK ‘road rap’ scene, beginning with the project Tef London under the modified stage name Youngs. The ‘Teflon’ part stuck, and he followed up with a string of highly praised mixtapes into the download era, including the Grown Man Thing (GMT) series from 2009 onwards and the Call of Duty series from 2010. Many of these were affiliated with Hill Productions, the label run by Carns Hill and Loco Hill, and featured guests such as Scorcher and Blade Brown.

Aseru’s Trillin' series of paid trap mixtapes, the first released in 2012 and the second in 2015, saw him work closely with 67. Several of his mixtapes and EPs in the 2010s including The Renaissance (2014), The Jungle Book (2015) and Tracksuit Diaries (2016) registered on national charts, picking up positions on the Official Charts Company’s Hip-Hop Albums, Independent Albums and Album Downloads Charts.

His popularity further grew during the coronavirus pandemic, with Dave’s appearance on the Call of Duty 3 song “Rule of Two” in 2020 pushing his sound to younger audiences, and multiple songs on his 2022 mixtape All Eyes On Me Against the World amassing millions of streams.

In 2023, he collaborated with Tiny Boost on his highest-charting project to date, Purple Hearts, which reached #38 on the UK Albums Chart, #4 in Scotland, and topped the UK Hip-Hop Albums Chart. He signed to Warner Music division Atlantic Records for his debut album, Keep the Change (2025), which landed two years later. In spite of appearances from Aitch, Knucks and Clavish, it was unable to break the UK chart.
