Ye
For other releases, see Kanye West.
Ye is the second profile on streaming services that mirrors Kanye West’s new identity, emerging from his legal name change in 2021. This change in name, from Kanye West to just “Ye,” symbolizes his personal and artistic growth.
Ye had been alluding to this wish to change his name since 2018, and had used Ye as a nickname for several years prior. In a June 2018 interview, he explained:
I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible. In the Bible it means you. So, I’m you. I’m us. It’s us. It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye. Just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused – everything. It’s more of a reflection of who we are [as] beings.
However, there might be more to this second profile than just a name change. It could also be a strategic move, giving Ye more control over how he releases his music. This allows him to share specific tracks or albums independently from his main profile.
The profile was first created with the release of Ye’s controversial single “WW3” on March 25, 2025. Previously released songs which credit Ye on DSPs such as Ty Dolla $ign’s “Wheels Fall Off” and Sean Leon’s “BURN EVERYTHING” actually direct to an unrelated profile named Yé.
This profile was superseded by DONDA, which Ye used to release DONDA 2 on April 29, 2025.
