WithOut Rezervation features rappers MC Hiddese (Chris LaMarr), Saint Mike (Mike Marin), and Mac Nez (Kevin Nez) of the Pit River/Paiute tribe and Navajo Nation (for the latter two) respectively. WOR is the, self-proclaimed, first all-Indigenous hip-hop group. They got their start in 1992 at an Indigenous community house, the Intertribal Friendship House of Oakland, CA. Pulling from Indigenous music and storytelling practices like powwow and drumming, WOR expands the image of Indigenous Americans from pictures in outdated history books into the modern, ever-evolving genre of hip-hop. After releasing two albums (Are You Ready For W.O.R.? and World WOR Two), they disbanded in the early 2000s. WOR remains a beacon of resistance, activism, and Indigenous visibility and creativity.
