Vanadeen is a pop punk band from Stockholm, Sweden and this is how it all started:

Douglas Brihed got his first guitar at age 12 and he soon realised he had a knack for learning to play it by ear. That followed by learning to play the bass and the drums in the same manner.

In a small town south of Stockholm, Douglas started a “band” alone and called it Vanadin. He later changed the band name to Vanadeen. A long fruitless search ensued for people to join his band. In his late teens Douglas instead joined a local Pop Punk band for a couple of gigs and a month long tour around eastern Europe and Russia as their drummer, but they parted ways not long after that.

One day after having watched interviews of Dave Grohl on how he created the band Foo Fighters all on his own as an outlet for his own music and creativity. Douglas got inspired and came to realise at that moment he’d become proficient enough to play the instruments on his own music and decided: “I’ll do it all, write, play, record, edit and produce everything myself, so that I can be fully independent!”

Inspired by the DIY attitude of post Nirvana Grohl, the music of bands like blink-182, Neck Deep and Green Day etc. And in the spirit of blink-182’s infamous immature sense of humour he decided to label this first album “Doing It On My Own” a not so subtle reference to the act of self pleasuring.
