Ulcus, originally under the name Ulcus Molle, was a Norwegian Symphonic Black Metal band, formed in the Sogndal region of Norway in March 1994.

The band originally consisted of four members: Sture (vocals and guitar), Jarle (bass), Jørn (drums), and Hektor (guitar). The band released their first demo titled Yggdrasil in 1995.

Hektor left the band before the recording of their second demo, Roles in 1996. He was replaced by Stian. This member’s arrival gave the band a new lease on life, establishing himself as lead guitarist

After Roles, Jarle took control of the compositions and music. They also added a more symphonic touch to the band. This is where the keyboard and a new member, Gaute Refsnes, come into play. Following these changes, the band recorded released Malicious Triuph 1998.

The band shortened their name in 1999 from Ulcus Molle to just Ulcus shortly before recording a Studio album. Their sole album, Cherish The Obscure, was released in 2000.

At the time of the album’s release they had written material for a second album and were planning to record it in early 2001, but the idea was scrapped when all members made a deal with Valfar to join his band Windir, thus disbanding Ulcus. Windir came to an abrupt end as well a few years later due to Valfar’s passing from hypothermia, the remaining members went on to form Vreid and Cor Scorpii.
