Type O Negative was a Gothic Metal band formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1989.
They are well known for their often slow and brooding music, and frontman Peter Steele’s baritone voice.

The band would make their debut in 1991 with their album Slow, Deep And Hard cementing themselves into the Gothic Metal genre. Later on that same year, they would release their second album The Origin of Feces which, upon release, would spark controversy due to the original album cover featuring a picture of Peter Steele’s anus. The album would feature covers of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid”, and Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe” under the name “Hey Pete”

In 1993, Type O Negative would release their critically acclaimed album Bloody Kisses. After the pressure of their new-found success, the band almost broke up. But they would ultimately stay together, and in 1996, release their second critically acclaimed album October Rust featuring some of their largest songs to date, such as “Love You to Death” and “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend”. The album would debut at #42 in the Billboard Top 200.

Following the release of October Rust, Peter Steele would experience a series of deaths among his family in the time in which he was writing the bands next album, that album would be 1999’s World Coming Down which was another large success for the band. In 2003, Type O Negative would release Life Is Killing Me which would be the last album for their contract with Roadrunner Records, soon being singed to Steamhammer Imprint, and would release Dead Again.

The band would abruptly disband after vocalist and bassist, Peter Steele’s death to heart failure at age 48.
