Thin Lizzy is an Irish hard rock band formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1969. Its classic era lineup was made up of bassist and singer Phil Lynott and drummer Brian Downey with a rotating cast of guitarists over their original 14 year run.

They disbanded in 1983 with many of its members spreading out across various other projects. Phil Lynott had been releasing solo work for some time and went on to form Grand Slam a few years later, though he passed away before they could release a studio album. Others, like guitarist Gary Moore who was in and out of the band from 1974 to 1979, continued working on solo material and other artists' projects.

Thin Lizzy was reformed in 1994 by John Sykes with several of the original run’s members, as well as new bassist Marco Mendoza. The band’s new incarnation hasn’t released any studio tracks, but has put out multiple live albums and was touring as recently as 2019.
