The Pointer Sisters are a vocal group from Oakland, California. With roots in their father Elton Pointer’s church, the group released their first album, “The Pointer Sisters,” in 1973. Until 1977, the group included Ruth, Anita, Bonnie and June Pointer. Bonnie left the group to pursue a solo career and the other sisters found greater success in the 1980s.

As of May 2026, Ruth Pointer is the sole surviving Pointer sister. The youngest sister, June, passed in 2006. The second youngest sister, Bonnie, passed in 2020. Anita died in 2022.
