The Grammy-nominated and self-pronounced soul band The Internet blends alternative R&B, neo soul, funk, jazz, and EDM into a sound that is as unique as it is groovy.

The band, initially a duo, was formed as a subgroup of the Los Angeles hip-hop collective Odd Future by members Syd tha Kyd and Matt Martians, who both play keyboards and provide vocals. After signing to Odd Future’s label in 2011, they released their debut EP Cocaine in November, followed by their debut studio album Purple Naked Ladies in December.

By 2013, The Internet was joined by bassist Patrick Paige II and drummer Christopher A. Smith. The newly expanded band then released their second album, Feel Good, and accompanied Mac Miller on tour along with frequent collaborator Tay Walker.

Following Feel Good, The Internet added Jameel Bruner, brother of renowned bassist Thundercat, as a keyboardist and Steve Lacy as a guitarist. In 2015, The Internet released their third album Ego Death, which received critical acclaim and was nominated at the 58th Grammy Awards for Best Urban Contemporary Album.

The Internet released a fourth album, Hive Mind, in 2018 before its members decided to ultimately pursue solo careers.

In a 2026 interview, Syd revealed The Internet is actively developing their fifth studio album, slated for a 2027 release.
