Tate McRae

AKA: Tate R. McRae, Tate Rosner McRae

Tate McRae (born Tate Rosner McRae, on July 1, 2003) is a singer, songwriter, and dancer from Calgary, Canada.

Starting out as a dancer, Tate first gained prominence at the age of 13 as the first Canadian finalist on the American reality television series So You Think You Can Dance.

In 2017, Tate started her YouTube video series Create With Tate, with a focus on vlogs, dance, and showcasing her original songs she wrote and recorded in her bedroom. When she was 14, she uploaded her debut song titled “One Day”. The song drastically gained popularity and compelled her to officially release the song independently.

Along with the release of her single, “tear myself apart”, in August 2019, Tate announced she was signing to RCA Records. Out of the 11 labels that reached out to her, she decided on RCA as they supported her wish to maintain her dance career alongside her music. Tate then released the EP TOO YOUNG TO BE SAD on March 26, 2021, which featured her first single to amass over 1 billion streams, “you broke me first”.

On May 27, 2022, Tate released her much awaited debut album, i used to think i could fly. The album explored the challenge of moving on from a breakup whilst harboring feelings of resentment towards an ex-lover.

After garnering a steady fanbase, Tate broke out into mainstream success with “greedy”, released on 15 September, 2023. A month prior to its release, Tate teased the song via TikTok, generating mass anticipation for its release. “greedy” hit #1 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, #3 on the Billboard American Hot 100 (making it her first American top ten hit), and was streamed over 1 million times the day of its release, marking it as her biggest single to date.

Following the release of “greedy”, Tate released the single “exes” on November 17, 2023, which also performed well commercially, debuting at #20 on Global Spotify, with over 2.9 million streams. On December 8, 2023, she released her sophomore album THINK LATER. The album marked Tate’s evolution into a more confident and assertive version of herself. While she remained true to her introspective roots, reflecting on her past self and relationships at points during the album, she ultimately embraced her motto of “live now, think later”.

On August 22, 2024, Tate made her debut performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City – the show was sold out. Moreover, it marked the beginning of the rollout of her third studio album, So Close To What—the project was first teased through iMessage-like texts on her Instagram story.

For the show’s encore, Tate came back out and debuted, the album’s lead single, “It’s ok I’m ok”, which was then officially released on September 12, 2024. In the music video, Tate also teased the album’s second single, “2 hands”, before its release on November 14, 2024. Following this, Tate released the single “Sports car”. The song’s title was first teased in the “2 hands” music video and later previewed at iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in Los Angeles, where a small part of the track was played. “Sports car” was officially released on January 24, 2025, as the last single before the album’s release on February 21, 2025.

The cover art for So Close To What was updated on streaming services on February 24, 2025, following the release of the bonus track, “Siren sounds”.

Tate took her career a step further with the song “Just Keep Watching”, released on May 30, 2025. The song was made exclusively for the movie F1, released on June 27, 2025.

On September 24, 2025, Tate announced a single called “TIT FOR TAT” on her Instagram. The song was first teased during Tate’s Miss Possessive Tour, where screens at the show glitched to display the letters “T4T.” The song was later leaked one day before its release.

Tate earned her first Grammy nomination on November 7, 2025 for her song “Just Keep Watching” in the category of Best Dance Pop Recording.

On November 21, 2025, Tate released SO CLOSE TO WHAT??? (deluxe) after teasing it on a screen behind her during the last Miss Possessive Tour date on November 8, with “NOBODY’S GIRL” being the final single and closing out the era.
