Swishahouse is a Houston-born independent hip-hop label founded in 1997 by DJ Michael “5000” Watts and OG Ron C. Emerging from the city’s Northside mixtape circuit, the label became synonymous with the chopped & screwed movement, launching the national careers of artists such as Mike Jones, Paul Wall and Slim Thug. With its slow-grind beats, Texas swagger and fiercely independent mindset, Swishahouse helped define Southern hip-hop and remains a vital part of Houston culture.
