SVDDEN DEATH

AKA: Daniel James Howland, Danny Howland, Daniel Howland

Daniel Howland, known professionally as SVDDEN DEATH, is an American music producer and DJ from San Jose, California. He is best known for his 2018 hit Behemoth, his collaborations with fellow producer Marshmello and his huge live shows under the VOYD moniker, as well as his debut album as part of that project, VOYD Vol. II.

Howland picked up music at a young age, being apart of marching band at school and taking part in various metal, jazz and indie bands throughout his young adult life. He experimented producing electro house, hip-hop, and big room house, before launching the SVDDEN DEATH project in 2015. He had successful releases on Buygore, Never Say Die and Bassrush.

Howland launched the anonymous side project VOYD in 2018, posting 3 clips to Soundcloud and playing out Behemoth, before it was released, which garnered some attention to the project. He would eventually reveal himself to be VOYD with the self-release of VOYD Vol. I in July of 2018. It featured Behemoth, which blew up within the scene and become a staple of the genre for the next few years. The EP was praised for how experimental and foreward-thinking it was, and he would start performing as VOYD, with sets that were markedly different to his usual ones. He followed it up with VOYD Vol. 1.5, a collection of remixes of Volume 1, plus 3 new songs.

The next few years would see the development of SVDDEN DEATH’s live shows as VOYD, with stunts including firebreathing, levitation and fake rituals at his shows. He would continue to perform as his original name too, often performing at festivals such as EDC and Ultra, and playing across Europe too.

On from that followed a flurry on singles, including Crusade with Marshmello and Blood On Me with SLANDER. In 2022, Howland announced his debut album, VOYD Vol. II, a narrative-driven album with 5 chapters and 13 songs. The album followed similar praise to his first VOYD EPs and rapidly grew his fan base, with songs like Shallow Land Burial and Comprehension Barrier becoming fan-favourites. He would also launch his first music festival, Summoning of the Eclipse, at The Caverns in Tennessee, as the first DJ to perform there.

Throughout 2023, Howland released collaborations with dubstep titan MARAUDA, as well as 3 singles from his next album and a collaboration with Sullivan King for King’s new album. He would also launch the DEADROOM alias, with 2 mixtapes and a show with a cast of celebrity-lookalikes, plus the Masterhand group – a collaboration between Howland and fellow producers Eptic and Space Laces, where they would debut at Summoning of the Eclipse. 2024 saw Howland, who was entirely independant at this point, release his sophomore album Harbinger, a collection of IDs from his sets that fans had been excited for, as well as his collaboration EP with Marshmello titled MELLODEATH Tapes Vol. I.

In 2025, SVDDEN DEATH would announce VOYD Vol. 2.5. It would be similar to VOYD 1.5 in that it would contain both remixes of Vol. II and new VOYD tracks, but it was much longer, totalling 19 originals and 57 remixes, leading to it being rolled out in 3 parts. Howland would also continue the DEADROOM alias with DEADROOM: The Machine and frequent VOYD shows to promote the new albums.
