Surgical Meth Machine is an American Industrial / Speed Metal band formed and fronted by Al Jourgensen, famously of the band Ministry.
The band and its eponymous debut studio album, formed in the wake of Ministry’s second disbandment with the passing of long-time collaborator and guitarist Mike Scaccia from a heart attack in 2012. This led Jourgensen to dedicate Ministry’s 2013 album From Beer To Eternity to Scaccia, and subsequently led Jourgensen to create this album with engineer Sammy D'Ambruoso as another tribute to Scaccia.
The album was initially supposed to be more in line with Scaccia’s fast-paced play style, leading initial demos to produce tracks going up to 220 bpm. However, Jourgensen would move to Los Angeles, California, during the production of the album and would subsequently get a medicinal marijuana card, that he claims would lead the album to “slow down considerably”; this may be a satirical statement as the album’s sound led to it being described as a form of speed metal by publications.
As of 2025, only the album and a remix done by DJ Swamp of the track “I’m Invisible” have come to fruition from the band, with no plans in the future for any new music; as of now, Al currently plans on finishing Ministry, which would be the group’s third and possibly final disbandment.
