Squirrel Flower is the moniker of Chicago-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ella Williams. After releasing two EPs – Early Winter Songs From Middle America (2015) and Contact Sports (2016) – Williams released her first full-length album, I Was Born Swimming, on Polyvinyl Records in 2020. The album garnered critical acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, FADER, NPR and others and set Williams on a path of extensive touring throughout the US, UK, and Europe. Squirrel Flower’s most recent album, 2023’s Tomorrow’s Fire, led to “Best of the Year” accolades in Vogue, Paste, Stereogum, and others, with Pitchfork calling it “a beautiful, searing record in which Williams channels listlessness and desperation into sweltering, explosive rock songs.”
