Shane Michael Boose (born July 5, 2005), known professionally as sombr, is an American singer-songwriter and producer from New York City.

sombr began making music at 11, producing hip-hop beats on GarageBand. In 2020, he eventually began independently releasing music from his bedroom under the short-lived alias CHERRY VALLEY before adopting his current stage name. In 2021, he released his debut single, “nothing left to say.” His breakthrough came in 2022 with the independently released single “caroline.” The song quickly gained traction online, particularly through TikTok. After receiving emails from various record labels, sombr signed with Warner Records. Encouraged by this early success, he left LaGuardia High School at 17 to pursue music full time, with the support of his family.

sombr cites artists such as Radiohead, Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers, and Jeff Buckley as key influences on his songwriting and sonic approach. Other inspirations include “life, books, movies, and heartbreak.”

Now based in Los Angeles, sombr released his debut EP, in another life, in September 2023. The project was co-produced with mentor Tony Berg, and showcased a more refined indie-pop sound centered on organic production and personal songwriting.

From December 2024 to July 2025, sombr released the singles “back to friends,” “undressed,” “we never dated,” and “12 to 12,” leading up to the release of his debut album, I Barely Know Her.

In April 2025, sombr announced his first solo tour, The Late Nights & Young Romance Tour, where he performed across North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Soon after the tour’s conclusion in March 2026, sombr announced his second solo tour, You Are the Reason Tour.

In 2026, sombr released the singles “Homewrecker” in February; “Potential” in April; and “My Body Isn’t Ready” in June. These singles are anticipated to be featured in his upcoming and anticipated sophomore album.
