Sol Jay
AKA: Sol Jay Sound, Sol Angel Keane Jimenez, Sol Jimenez
Sol Angel Keane Jimenez (born June 16, 2001), professionally known as Sol Jay, is an Asian-American recording artist, songwriter, record producer, audio engineer, and creative director of Filipino, Japanese, and Irish descent. Born in San Francisco, California and raised in the Los Angeles Valley, he was shaped by a diverse blend of cultural and musical influences from an early age. At the age of 10, his family relocated to St. George, Utah, where, as one of the few Asian students in his schools, he experienced racism, discrimination, and social isolation throughout much of his adolescence. Those experiences would later become a defining influence on his songwriting and creative identity. Since emerging from the SoundCloud underground, Sol Jay has expanded his artistic direction beyond hip-hop into alternative R&B, melodic rap, and, as of 2026, Christian hip-hop. In 2026, he was invited to perform at Church Afterparty: RAVE FOR JESUS at Believe Music Hall in Atlanta, appearing alongside Christian artists including 1K Phew and Tommy Royale, marking a significant milestone in his faith-centered artistic journey.
Known for blending atmospheric melodies with emotionally driven songwriting, Sol Jay describes some of his defining sounds as Pluggnb as well as RnDnB—a subgenre that combines the vulnerability of contemporary R&B with the rhythmic foundation of Drum and Bass. In addition to his own music, he records, produces, mixes, masters, and develops independent artists through SJS Hollywood, his private recording studio in the Hollywood Hills.
Sol Jay began making music at the age of 13 after his birth father introduced him to Ableton Live. What began as both a creative outlet and an escape from the isolation he experienced growing up in southern Utah quickly developed into an obsession with recording, production, and songwriting. Music became his way of processing emotion while fueling a long-term goal of returning to Los Angeles to pursue his career. By his mid-teens, he had established himself within the SoundCloud underground, collaborating with artists across the United States and earning recognition for his melodic vocal style and emotionally transparent lyrics. Some of his earliest breakout collaborations, “shefromthecity” with Action Doxx and “Too Bizarre” with heffy, became defining moments during the late-2010s SoundCloud era.
On July 27, 2019, Sol Jay survived a near-fatal car accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury and multiple brain bleeds. The life-altering event, which drew an outpouring of support from the underground music community and beyond, profoundly reshaped both his life and artistic direction. Despite the severity of his injuries, he continued refining his craft as an artist and audio engineer, ultimately returning with renewed purpose and an even stronger commitment to his sound. The experience inspired a deeper focus on perseverance, faith, gratitude, and healing—themes that have since become central to his music, with July 27 evolving into a recurring symbol throughout his catalog. Through his annual releases and continued transparency about his recovery, Sol Jay has used his story to encourage others facing hardship while demonstrating resilience through his work.
At the age of 20, Sol Jay fulfilled a longtime personal goal by relocating to the Hollywood Hills in 2021. There he founded and continues to operate SJS Hollywood, an active recording studio that serves as both his creative headquarters and a collaborative space where he records, produces, engineers, and develops music for himself and a growing roster of independent artists. Becoming a studio owner marked another milestone in the journey he had envisioned since first making music as a teenager.
Across projects including #UNDERGROUNDKINGS, Angel Keane, fell in lust in LA, and JULY 27, Sol Jay has continued to evolve lyrically, sonically, and visually. Purple has remained the defining color of his artistic identity since his earliest releases, symbolizing royalty, purpose, and transformation. His work frequently explores themes of love, healing, ambition, spirituality, self-reflection, and redemption while balancing polished production with intimate storytelling.
Known for maintaining creative control over nearly every aspect of his career, Sol Jay independently oversees his songwriting, production, engineering, visual branding, and creative direction. His multidisciplinary approach has become one of the defining characteristics of his artistry, reflecting a commitment to authenticity, craftsmanship, and long-term artistic independence.
