Ebenezer “Slix” Ayerh is a veteran of the grime and UK rap scenes with a presence throughout three decades. He is best known for co-founding the influential collective Ruff Sqwad alongside Shifty Rydos at the turn of the millennium, and for his many achievements with the crew since. He now co-runs the Ruff Sqwad Arts Foundation alongside Prince Rapid, which has served as an artist development incubator for emerging talents like RB.

Born in 1986 in Hackney and raised in Bow, East London, the experienced MC and occasional record producer rose up through the local youth club circuit with his childhood friends, who gained national recognition and mentions in the likes of the Guardian with their 2003 debut single “Tings in Boots”. He appeared extensively on the crew’s breakthrough mixtapes Guns ‘n’ Roses Vol. 1 (2005) and Vol. 2 (2006), and had a role in their two biggest singles from that era, “Together” (feat. Wiley) and “Xtra”, contributing the iconic “East London where the man dem ah boop” chorus on the latter track.

Following the G ‘n’ R series, Slix turned to a solo career, releasing the mixtapes Down Vol. 1 (2006) and Vol. 2 (2008). The first volume featured Ghetts, Jammer and Talay Riley as well as the Ruff Sqwad, while the second featured a young Ed Sheeran as well as comparatively elusive local MCs such as Young C and Lee Brasco. He also quietly upped his output as a producer, contributing the distinctive “No Bass” riddim to Scorcher’s Simply the Best Vol. 1 (2006), “Trapped in the System” to Ghetts‘ acclaimed album Ghetto Gospel (2007), and two beats to Lightnin’s Young & Gifted mixtape (2008).

As an MC, Slix collaborated a few times with fellow Sqwad member Tinchy Stryder during the latter’s mainstream success of the late 2000s and early 2010s. His 2010 EP Daddy’s Home spawned the single “I Ball” and involved a number of prominent names in the scene at the time, including Lady Leshurr, Yazmin, Sway and Ed Sheeran again. The Flee EP followed, featuring local Bow artists such as Lee Brasco and Young C (UK) and rising talents including Ragz Originale and Bobii Lewis. Slix also left his mark all over Ruff Sqwad’s following EP, 2012.

While he wasn’t involved in the 2015 Ruff Sqwad reunion, which saw Prince Rapid, Fuda Guy and Roachee take the lead, he was back in the fold by the time they got back together for 2024 and 2025’s Flee FM series of pirate radio-inspired concept EPs, credited as Slix Fleeingham. The group were nominated for a MOBO Award for the first time in 2025.
