SimpGod was a satirical rapper-producer duo between vocalist demigod9999999 and producer simpaditya, active during the years 2021–2023.

The tale of SimpGod begins with the surprise release of Ad-Lib Anthology in May of 2021. The album introduces the SimpGod formula which would soon prove successful—wacky simpaditya production interlaced with Demigod’s adlibs, which are peppered indiscriminately throughout the tracks. The rappers Fleecy, aurainairy and YUNG CEES were enlisted to join Demigod in his ad-libbing on the tracks “You Look Good” and “E”. Demigod closes the album with Spanish spoken word from the perspective of a man named Simp.

SimpGod would then release two loosies: “Youngboy Better” and “.”

Albeit novel by design, the debut saw moderate success, paving the way for “Under Arrest”, the duo’s most prolific single. The track, a simpaditya-produced diss track on Demigod, blew up on SoundCloud and on YouTube shortly after uploading. One likely reason for this track’s popularity is that actual rappers (ToxiPlays, aurainairy and YUNG CEES) are performing, instead of Demigod ad-libbing over the entire track.

September 2021 gave us Ad-Lib Anthology 2, which was a return-to-form for the duo. Over another album of the classic SimpGod formula, the instrumentals begin incorporating gospel samples from this point onwards. This coincides with simpaditya finding himself in Christ around this point in time. ToxiPlays and aurainairy—two of the prior guest artists on “Under Arrest”—share Demigod’s ad-lib duty on the hyperpop-influenced “imo”. They are accompanied by Leonii, who appears on a SimpGod track for the first time with his feature on “Mid”. Demigod closes the sequel with more Spanish spoken word from the recurring Simp character.

Riding the momentum of a successful sequel, SimpGod released “Bank” with no promotion. Hope as they might with this single though, the shared burnout between these two artists had started to make itself clear. The group of vocalists that were once more than eager to contribute to SimpGod’s discography were beginning to have interpersonal fallouts that inevitably boiled into their professional lives. With its brooding atmosphere and unguided direction, “Bank” serves as a dark foretelling of what was to come for SimpGod.

SimpGod finished the trilogy with Ad-Lib Anthology 3—ultimately the last SimpGod project ever. For the final album, simpaditya wanted to kill the classic formula and combine his production with traditional songwriting. That’s why isdamenok, then-performing as Red Frank, cuts Demigod off in the album’s intro to voice exactly this:

Each guest artist was instructed to deliver an earnest verse, and told specifically not to treat it like other installments in the series. What they asked for is what we got. ToxiPlays returns to genuinely yap over “Hacked”, and Livr claims her first SimpGod collaboration on “Copypasta”.

To bring the album to a close, Demigod leans into the Spanish-spoken-word-outro formula to deliver a powerful message. As Simp, he describes being changed after his “time in Serbia”. Feeling free from the cycle of being constantly down bad and down horrendous, Simp now becomes Chad.

SimpGod’s last official track together was the YUNG CEES-assisted loosie “Winter Time”, which released on January 21, 2023. Similarly, “Winter Time” strays away from the usual SimpGod formula, and is more indicative of simpaditya’s vision for Ad-Lib Anthology 3. It is the only SimpGod song to be released onto all streaming platforms, such as Spotify. It released through ToxiPlays’s record label, Toxadil. While this is a big step up on paper, it was clear that the spotlight SimpGod once had in the community as a brand was already long gone by now. “Winter Time” did not end up performing as well as the loosies before it.

With the SimpGod story being told and Chad’s character arc completed, Demigod was ultimately ousted from his community. simpaditya would stop working on music in order to focus on his personal life and, eventually, his relationships with God and with his girlfriend. Reflecting the duo’s change in priorities, the SimpGod YouTube channel—once a viable platform for the duo to distribute lyric videos and visualizers—was completely deleted. For this reason, you may see “music videos” on the Genius page that are unavailable. Despite this, their full discography is still available on SoundCloud.

While the drama between Demigod and SimpGod’s supporters has not been covered much in the music sphere, Ambighast, then-performing as kai, name-dropped him on frequent collaborator YUNG CEES’s 2023 single, “WASHED FRAUDS”.
