Oyena Sobantu (born 13 September 1996), professionally known as Shy G, is a South African musician, producer, beatmaker, and entrepreneur from Cabekwana, Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape, currently based in Johannesburg. Renowned for his versatility and relentless work ethic, Shy G has earned recognition as one of the most dedicated and innovative producers to emerge from his hometown.

He first gained prominence through his production on Stray K’s 5Teen October Mixtape (2016), which featured standout singles like “Gxabhashe” and “Household.” In 2019, he founded his own record label, Daydreamers Empire, with a mission to nurture and elevate South African talent to a world-class standard.

A self-taught producer, Shy G’s sound fuses Hip-Hop, Trapsoul, R&B, New Age Kwaito, Afro-fusion, and Trap, combining emotional storytelling with musical versatility. His debut project, “Miracles EP” (2018), introduced his production and artistry to a wider audience, featuring collaborations with Tee Lourenzo, Varity, Dezzy Damainne, Eez RaPoetic, Miranda, Junior Greg, Mora Lu, and Anelly. He followed up with “Miracles II” (2019), further establishing his reputation as a storytelling producer-artist capable of blending introspection, ambition, and celebration in equal measure.

Shy G’s work often delves into themes of perseverance, ambition, love, loyalty, and self-belief, creating music that connects deeply with listeners while reflecting his own journey. Beyond producing, he’s known for curating collaborative projects that showcase other artists’ strengths while maintaining a cohesive and signature sonic identity.

As of now, Shy G is working on “Miracles III” and continuing to expand Daydreamers Empire, mentoring rising artists and pushing forward his vision of making South African music resonate globally — one dream at a time.
