Shellac were a self-described “minimalist rock trio” from Chicago which toured and recorded intermittently from 1992 to 2024. The band consisted of Bob Weston (formerly of Volcano Suns, and also an accomplished producer/engineer, bass and vocals), and Todd Trainer (formerly of Breaking Circus and Rifle Sport, and performing as a solo artist under the name Brick Layer Cake, drums and occasional vocals), and the late Steve Albini (formerly of Rapeman and Big Black, and a legendary rock producer/recording engineer, guitar and vocals). The band ended with Steve Albini’s death on May 7, 2024, days before the realease of To All Trains, which would turn out to be their final album.
