SHAED (pronounced “Shade”) is a head­-bobbing pop project formed in 2011 in Washington, D.C. The group consists of multi­-instrumentalist twin brothers Max and Spencer Ernst and powerhouse vocalist Chelsea Lee. Lee’s vocals weave divinely through the Ernst twin’s pop­-sensible production that can make anyone move.

The group originally started as just Max and Spencer under the name The Walking Sticks. They released several EPs under that moniker before having Chelsea jump on board. With Chelsea’s vocals they released one final project, Send the Night in 2013. In March 2016, they rebranded to SHAED. The name comes from a cloak in The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. Much like how the cloak contrasts shadow and light, SHAED attempts to create this difference through their music. They also love the word’s literal meaning, describing the nuances of sound, as Max said in an interview with District Fray:

We want every song to be a different shade

SHAED’s debut EP, Just Wanna See, was released on September 9, 2016.

Their highly anticipated debut album, High Dive, was released on May 14, 2021. It featured their smash hit “Trampoline” as well as ZAYN’s remix of the hit.

Their sophomore album Spinning Out was released on June 7, 2024.
