Set Fire To Flames

Set Fire to Flames is a musical ensemble based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The ensemble consists of upwards of 13 musicians, including members from various bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion, Fly Pan Am, Exhaust, Ratchet Orchestra, HRSTA, and many more. They helped pioneer the genre that is known as “post-classical,” and they kickstarted the FatCat Records imprint, 130701. They have been cited as similar in sound to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, akin to that of F#A#∞.

During their lifespan, they’ve released two albums. Their first, 2001’s Sings Reign Rebuilder, is critically praised.

In 2009, they were scheduled to release a collaborative effort with Portland experimental group Jackie-O Motherfucker, but that never came to fruition. David Bryant, the ensemble’s ringleader, has eluded to potentially releasing the album one day, but we have yet to see that happen.

They commonly use photography from New York-based photographer Michael Ackerman.
