Scalladosis
AKA: Scall, Scalla, Scal, Simon Hendry, Simon Alexander Hendry
Scalladosis (born July 26, 2006) is a rapper, singer, producer, pianist, and independent musical artist from Paradise, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
Recognized locally and among his peers for his extremely unique and creative approach to music, and his knack for complex rhymes, he first started writing lyrics in 2016 between the ages of 9 and 10 years old. Those songs were very goofy and silly because they were inspired by his favorite artist at the time, Weird Al Yankovic. However, he started to take music slightly more seriously in 2018 when he started getting into rap music; mainly Eminem, Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN, and other rap songs that were popular around then.
But Scalladosis’s musical journey goes back much further than that; he has been playing piano since he was 5 years old and alto saxophone since he was 10 years old. The first big stepping stone for his music “career” was in 2017, when his dad bought a Yamaha MX-61 keyboard. Scalladosis then began to experiment and play around with the 1000+ sounds on it. He produced solely with this keyboard from 2020 up until fall of 2023, when he downloaded and taught himself how to use FL Studio 21. Nowadays, he mostly raps on free-for-profit beats from YouTube, still occasionally using sounds from his keyboard.
Scalladosis began making instrumentals for the lyrics he wrote from 2016-early 2018 for his YouTube channel in 2020, right when the COVID pandemic hit, up until early 2021; almost a full year run. He later took them all down in early-mid 2022 because he didn’t think they were mixed well, and then he completely removed them from the Internet in mid-2023 because as he got older, he grew to hate how silly they were and they did not hold up to what he was doing going forward.
His debut album Scars was released in August 2022, but removed from streaming platforms in May 2024 because once again, Scalladosis said that it no longer held up, and then went on to call it a mixtape. However, three of the songs were re-released back onto platforms as singles, ones that Scalladosis still liked, and the status of “debut album” was moved to Red Haze From Afar, his first full-length rap album.
Scalladosis’s musical tastes in several different genres have caused him to make a lot of different types of music. He started off back in 2020 trying out almost every musical genre; rap, alternative/indie, rock, pop, and EDM, but nowadays he only does rap music, with some alternative now and then. But even then, he still does a big variety of styles, experimenting with hip-hop, aggressive rap/trap, cloud rap, melodic rap, meme rap (formerly) and more. His interests in all this music has led him down several rabbit holes, making lots of different friends and connections online and locally.
