Sawami is a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter/composer originally from Tokyo, Japan. Her music is best described as “Dark Ambient,” as she incorporates cinematic, orchestral instrumentation with descriptive, detailed lyrics to evoke an ethereal experience.

Sawami started singing at 7 years old when she became a member of the NHK Tokyo Children’s Chorus. The NHK Chorus toured in Asia and Europe, giving her exposure to performing at an early age. She moved to Los Angeles in 2009 to seek more opportunities, where she gained a bigger exposure to pop and rock music.

This experience combined with her background in modern classical (avant-garde) and other genres to create a unique sound and approach to songwriting.

Eventually, she began writing and recording her own songs, often inspired by Synesthesia, a unique phenomenon in which color informs the chords and melody.

With encouragement and assistance from her partner, David Walsh, Sawami released her first EP, entitled “Crimson Moon,” in November 2016. In 2017, she earned a strong reputation for writing English language lyrics for both K-Pop and J-Pop acts. Additionally, she was honored to work with acclaimed composer / arranger Bennet Salvay, when she was hired by Netflix to replace Carly Rae Jepsen, singing the Japanese version of the theme song to Fuller House, for a special episode from Season 3.

Sawami has also provided music for various clients, including the online series “Babble Eats Global” (from Disney). She continues to write and record new music both for herself and for others.

She has also performed a number of live shows in Los Angeles and Tokyo, eliciting tremendous response.
