Samuel Robert Barber, professionally known as Sam Barber, is an American country singer-songwriter born on April 15, 2003, in Frohna, Missouri. Raised on his family’s farm, Barber spent much of his early life focused on athletics and academics. Music entered his life at age sixteen when he discovered his great-grandfather’s musical background, inspiring him to pick up the guitar and start writing songs, however he initially pursued civil engineering at the State Technical College of Missouri.
While still a student, Barber began sharing performances on TikTok in 2021, posting covers and original songs. A rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man” helped him gain early traction on the platform, along with covers like “Dancing in the Sky” and “Ophelia,” the former of which he later released as a single. His first original release was, “Run Away High,” which was released on September 6, 2021.
Barber also auditioned for the 20th season of American Idol, advancing to Hollywood Week with a golden ticket. However, his performances were not broadcast, and he was ultimately eliminated from the competition.
In 2022, Barber released a handful of singles, including “Ramblin Man,” “Straight and Narrow,” and “As Time Passes.” “Straight and Narrow” became his breakthrough hit, earning gold certification from the RIAA and marking his first appearance on U.S. charts.
Barber headlined his first sold-out show in 2023 at The Basement in Nashville and performed internationally at events like Bruce Springsteen’s BST Hyde Park series and as an opener for Ed Sheeran. On September 23, 2023, he made his official debut at the Grand Ole Opry, a major milestone in his rising career.
Barber released his debut EP, Million Eyes, on September 21, 2023, followed by Live EP 001 in January 2024, showcasing live performances from his growing catalog.
In 2024, Barber continued to release new music, including singles like “S.O.B.,” “Streetlight,” “Tear Us Apart” (featured on Twisters: The Album), “Better Year,” and “Thought of You.” Later in August 2024, he announced his extensive “Restless Mind” tour and revealed plans for his highly anticipated debut album. Restless Mind,, his 27-track debut album, was released on November 1, 2024.
On April 18, 2025, Barber released his first single of the year, “Man of the Year”.
