Sadness is a Blackgaze project of Damián Antón-Ojeda, formed in 2014 in Oak Park, Illinois. Originally, Damián went anonymously under the name Elisa.

The project was founded on July 10, 2014, simultaneously with the release of its first project, Close.

On April 7, 2019, Sadness released I Want to Be There, defined by Rate Your Music as one of the most popular blackgaze releases. This album is often compared with Deafheaven’s Sunbather, as the second most famous metal album with a pink cover.

Sadness has released over 50 bodies of work, including albums, compilations, and splits.
