One of Sad Brad Smith’s songs seems to be considerably more popular than the artist himself: “Help Yourself” was featured in the 2009 movie Up in the Air, and receives at least a mention on a wikipedia disambiguation page—its creator, however, has not been so rewarded. Despite the minor breakthrough of being featured in an award-winning film, he remains relatively unknown.

Sad Brad Smith is a singer-songwriter hailing from Chicago, and has in fact released 2 full-length albums, 2009’s Love Is Not What You Need and 2014’s Magic. His downbeat songs more than live up to his name, with highlights such as “Home Sweet Home” off the first album and “Take Me Home” off the second. The former includes the downcast (but perhaps universal) lines, “I am not pleased/ With anything I have done”; the official video for the latter is included below:
