The backdrop of palm trees and the sunshine has long given birth to some of the industry’s most talented voices – and rightfully so. The region’s mixture of realities that range from carefree beach-front living, plastic Hollywood dreaming, circles of gang violence and everything in between, LA has given us a broad variety of artists from all genres and mediums. Just Matthew blends elements of hip-hop, R&B, funk and electronic music together to showcase his versatility as a songwriter and performer as well as accentuate the diversity of LA’s roots in his personal artistry.

“I think with the state our generation is in with the Internet obviously impacting all people of all industries, I think now more than ever presents a great opportunity to expand and transcend the boundaries of hip-hop in regards to fan appreciation and experience…

..After all, music is a universal language. With my work, I want to make it accessible for someone in Uruguay, someone in Estonia, someone in Nepal for example and bring LA to them. I want them to experience my version of Los Angeles whenever they put on their headphones. At the same time it expands the boundaries of what music is today and brings in new fans for tomorrow.”

“My main thought process into making music is thinking from a perspective of somebody who has never listened to hip-hop before. How would a person from outer-space interpret it, you know? How would they react to it? That sounds kind of silly, but it’s that excitement and challenge for me to present my music as something new but paradoxically at the same time being something familiar. To get that feedback is amazing!”
