Raftaar

Kalathil Kuzhiyil Devadasan Dilin Nair, professionally known as Raftaar (born 16 November 1988) is the Indian rapper, songwriter, dancer and music producer.
Nair began writing and recording songs with friends Ikka and Lil Golu in 2008, which he then uploaded to audio outlets. He eventually joined mainstream popular singer/rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh’s band Mafia Mundeer. In 2011, his dancing abilities motivated him to participate in the Indian dance reality show Dance India Dance. He left the band after making a contentious remark about taking credit and created a new band called ‘The Titans’ with another band member, Badshah. After a few years of producing songs that helped him get fame in the scene, he joined a Punjabi band RDB created by Manj Musik. Shortly after the band members separated, Raftaar joined Manj and signed a deal with ‘Zee Music Company’.
In 2013, he released his debut mixtape, WTF MIxtape Vol 1 has four officially released tracks; nevertheless, for unclear reasons, the artist did not release all of the recorded tracks. Raftaar released “Swag Mera Desi”, an MTV Spoken word project produced by Manj Musik, in 2014, which became a major hit and helped him get national recognition. It won the ‘Best Urban Single’ title at the Brit Asia Music Awards.
In 2016, with the “Instagram Love” ft. Kappie helped him to gain a spot in mainstream commercial music as the song became viral and gathered immense views on YouTube, and continuously giving major hits like “Tere Wargi Nai Ae”, “Mantoiyat” and “Baby Marwake Manegi”.
Besides of the musical career, in 2019 [Raftaar roped into the judge in the dance reality show, DID, in which he auditioned in his adult days, in the same year, they judged Indian hip-hop reality show MTV hustle season 1 and keep continuous it to the season 2, and season 4.
Raftaar has always been involved in controversies; in 2018, during an interview with Hip-Hop prominent figure writer and YouTuber Raaj Jones, the artist made a comment on another rapper Emiway Bantai; in response, the other rapper released a diss track “Samajh mein aaya kya?”, it ignites the scene, and Dillin responds with “Sheikh Chilli”, this rap battle considered the most impactful beef in the Desi Hip-Hop genre as it helps the genre to be accentuated at the international level. The disputes with former band member Yo Yo Honey Singh over credit issues are still brewing, since both musicians have a history of making disparaging remarks about one other in interviews.
The rapper found their own hip-hop label Kalamkaar in 2017 with his business partner Ankit Khanna to provide the opportunity to new hip-hop artists.
Raftaar released his debut studio album, Zero to Infinity Following the project’s popularity in 2018, he released Mr Nair in 2020 through Zee Music Company. In 2022, the rapper released “Hard Drive Vol. 1” a surprise project for his fans on his birthday, following the project’s success, the artist dropped the sequence two years later, in 2024, Hard Drive, Vol. 2 using a randomly selected feature list.
