Nicholas Ihua-Maduenyi (born October 28, 1998 in Abuja, Nigeria) is a Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter better known as PsychoYP.
PsychoYP developed an interest in music at an early age and began recording while still a teenager. His professional career started in 2016 when he released his debut EP, Lost In The Sauce, which helped introduce him to Nigeria’s emerging new-wave hip-hop scene.
In 2018, PsychoYP gained wider recognition with the release of his mixtape YPSZN. The project helped establish his reputation as one of the leading voices in Nigeria’s alternative hip-hop movement. The mixtape included standout tracks like “Oga,” which later received a remix featuring Dremo, Ycee and Blaqbonez.
In 2019, he followed up with YPSZN2, a project that expanded his audience and showcased his versatility as a rapper. The project earned him nominations at the South African Music Awards in the “Rest of Africa” category and at the Headies for Best Rap Album, further cementing his position in the Nigerian rap scene.
PsychoYP continued building his catalog with several releases, including the collaborative project with Azanti and his 2021 EP Euphoria, which demonstrated a more melodic and experimental side of his music. His work blends hip-hop, trap, drill, Afroswing and alternative sounds, making him one of the pioneers of Nigeria’s alté rap movement.
Over the years, PsychoYP has earned recognition for his contributions to Nigerian hip-hop, including nominations at the Headies and Soundcity MVP Awards, as well as winning the Clout Africa Award for Best Hip-Hop Artist.
