Project Vela

Project Vela is a two person modern rock/alternative metal band created in 2017 by Scott Spriggs and Travis Owen.

“It just started as kind of like an internet project,” Scott says of the remote collaboration, which only brings them together a few times a year for studio sessions. “It was just for fun, and it just kind of latched on to people and started taking off.”

The band is named after the Project Vela project by the United States Department of Defense. The goal of the project was to develop methods to monitor compliance with the 1963 Partial Test Ban Treaty. The treaty banned the testing of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere, in outer space, and underwater, effectively meaning nuclear tests were only to be permitted underground.

As of 2022 they have built a devoted fan base of over 75,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and racked up millions of streams on YouTube but never played a live show.
