Pro Era
AKA: Progressive Era, Pro Era Records
Pro Era is an American hip-hop collective from Brooklyn, New York, formed out of Edmond R. Burrows High School in 2011. While the collective has had many members, both musical and non-musical, the core members all appeared on their project PEEP: The aPROcalypse:
- Capital STEEZ (rapper, founder)
- Powers Pleasant (producer/DJ, founder)
- Joey Bada$$ (rapper/producer)
- Kirk Knight (rapper/producer)
- CJ Fly (rapper)
- Nyck Caution (rapper)
- Chuck Strangers (producer/rapper)
- Dessy Hinds (rapper)
- Dyemond Lewis (rapper)
- Dirty Sanchez (rapper)
- Rokamouth (producer/rapper)
- Aaron Rose (rapper)
They released their debut mixtape, The Secc$ TaP.E., in early 2012, and most members attempted to further establish themselves through solo mixtapes. Pro Era followed up with their seminal project PEEP: The aPROcalypse in December 2012. Sadly, founding member Capital STEEZ committed suicide only days after its release.
Pro Era stands for Progressive Era. We live in the Common Era, so naming the group “Pro Era” is symbolic of the group helping to bring forth a new era, a new age, with their conscious music.
The Collective uses and refers to the number ‘47’ heavily. First championed by Capital STEEZ, the number is meant to represent the tension between the fourth chakra—the heart—and the seventh—the brain.
