Primer 55

Primer 55 was an American nu metal band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1997. The name is a combination of the word “Primer”, meaning “something unfinished”, and the number 55, which refers to Interstate 55, “the drug-running highway to Chicago via Memphis.”

After releasing As Seen On TV on a small label, Island Records released a re-recorded and expanded version of it named Introduction to Mayhem as the band toured with Ozzfest 2000. (the) New Release followed in 2001. In 2003, guitarist Bobby Burns joined Soulfly and the band went on hiatus.

After releasing a compilation of unreleased recordings in 2007 named Family For Life, the band re-formed with a different frontman (named DRP). Primer 55 toured from 2009-2012 before going on another haitus.

The band would unfortunately come to a “demise” on Oct. 7th, 2015 as Bobby Burns would focus on other works. Jason “J-Sin” Luttrell would sadly pass away on Aug. 10th, 2018 due to a lifelong battle with Hepatitis C. In 2019, Burns was asking the public for money to help with legal fees needed to take his estranged wife to court.

In December 2019, there was word from Bobby and then bassist Josh Toomey that there would be a 20th anniversary reunion for their album Introduction to Mayhem in 2020 where they would have some shows, however that idea never saw the light of day.
