Population 1

Population 1, was a rock band fronted by Nuno Bettencourt, the guitarist from the band Extreme.

The project began when Bettencourt released an album titled Population 1 in 2002 (with an earlier release in Japan in late 2001). On that record, he played nearly all the instruments himself. To promote the album live, he assembled a touring group that included Joe Pessia on rhythm guitar, Steve Ferlazzo on keyboards and backing vocals, Philip Bynoe on bass, and Kevin Figueiredo on drums. After Bynoe’s departure, Pessia transitioned to playing bass. In 2004, still using the name Population 1, the group released an EP called Sessions from Room 4.

In 2005, due to legal complications, Bettencourt changed the band’s name to DramaGods, keeping the same members.
