Drawing inspiration from artists like Rico Nasty, Frank Ocean and Audrey Nuna the EP became PixieShawty’s introduction into the music industry. Zai became almost obsessed with freestyling and this new way for a filmmaker to tell stories. Soon after and to Zai’s pleasant surprise they booked their first two gigs as an official rapper/vocalist one day after the other. The Pixie performed Hamilton’s “My Shot” (a song very different from their previous Hamilton performances) at the LOMA Black History Month celebration and “Pixie” (the first song off their EP) at one of the last big New York City parties before the Quarantine of 2020. PixieShawty dropped “Social Isolation”, a reflection of the times, a few weeks into Quarantine from their New York home. Currently, Zai and Ryan are working on several singles and supporters of Zai anticipate several other virtual modeling projects PixieShawty has been teasing.
