Ostrogoth is a Belgian heavy/power metal band that was formed in 1976 under the name “Thrash”. The name was then changed to “Stonehenge” in 1977, and was finally changed to “Ostrogoth” in 1980. The band named themselves after the 5th century Germanic tribe of the same name. Their former guitarist, Rudy Vercruysse, claims they chose that name because the Ostrogoths lived lives similar to Vikings and stood for “courage, perseverance and fight[ing] to succeed”.

Throughout the 1980’s Ostrogoth went through multiple lineup changes and released 3 albums and an EP mostly under Mausoleum Records. Their most popular album, Ecstasy and Danger,
sold 10,000 copies worldwide (as of the year 2000). Ostrogoth got to tour with popular bands such as Def Leppard, and Manowar.

The band split up in 1988 due to visa problems with some international members and the fact that many members were recording songs with other bands.

The band got back together in 2010 and has since released one EP. The band remains active
