One Last Wish was a seminal Washington, D.C. post-hardcore and emo band formed in May 1986. Featuring members from the influential D.C. “Revolution Summer” scene, they recorded only one album, 1986, before disbanding in January 1987. Guy Picciotto – Lead Vocals, GuitarMichael Hampton – Guitar, Vocals Edward Janney – Bass, Vocals Brendan Canty – Drums One Last Wish emerged from the ashes of the beloved D.C. hardcore band Rites of Spring. Three-quarters of Rites of Spring (Picciotto, Janney, and Canty) regrouped and were joined by Michael Hampton, a former guitarist from the bands Faith and Embrace. In order to accommodate Hampton, Janney transitioned from playing guitar to bass. Despite leaving an indelible mark on the emo and post-hardcore genres, One Last Wish was incredibly short-lived. The band was together for just four months and played only six live shows. Their final act was a 12-song recording session at Arlington, Virginia’s legendary Inner Ear Studios in November 1986, produced by Ian MacKaye. The band quietly split up in January 1987, and the album was subsequently shelved. More than a decade later, the sessions were officially released as the acclaimed posthumous album 1986, securing the band’s legacy as pioneers of early, emotive punk rock.
