Boom lands the dynamite!. So who is October Ivy formally known as Sandile Ashley is a kid that grew up in the streets of Klipfontein View in Midrand, but that’s not where he started off. It all started in Soweto, Meadowlands. There he was introduced to the likes of Kanye West, Lucky Dube, Soul Brothers, Matshikos and other legendary artists. He was introduced to a lot of sounds at a young age. From there he moved to Orange Grove pretty close to the North of Johannesburg. Then he discovered that he could actually sing and that’s when his musical sense was unlocked and he instantly fell in love with music and he discovered the likes of Bruno Mars, Chris Brown, Usher and more…all at the age of 9. So he looked up to those artist vocally and he’d always practice how to sing using their songs and he always hoped he’d sound like them. Time to time he’d ask his teachers to sing for his classmates and after that the other boys just tagged along. After that he moved again and this time to Klipfontein View, Midrand. New school, new friends, new everything. He actually stopped singing in a consistent manner, he was just shy, so he diverted to Rap and he discovered the likes of Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Jay-Z, Schoolboy Q, Drake and he even bumped to house music (he had no direction as yet.) but that happened and he met people that are still his friends till this day. He considers them as brothers and sisters, “family”. During that Primary time his musical taste was mostly influenced by his cousin Melanchxly he was the Hip-Hop plug, still is till this day. Primary passed and High School came. Hmmm, the pits, but we’ll keep this short because a lot happened here. So he finally made it to High School, that High School being Rhodesfield Technical High and there he met the likes of D'Alpha, KP tha Pro, Joseyy, JJ, Seon, Tebogo (OwlRadio)…a lot of talented oaks, oh and his cousin Melanchxly also learnt there. With High School, he was best known for singing. Introduced to a small singing acapella group named Teq Note (the “Teq” referring to our group as a small group from a technical school.) in grade 8 but never fully joined because he was “shy”, but he joined the next year and he made a mark of some sort although he embarassed himself on stage when he went off key, but he recovered and got known as one of the good male vocalists at school. He was modest enough not to use his voice to his advantage. So. When did he start making music? Again his cousin Melanchxly, a huge influence to half of the things he does. In 2017 he first heard music from a group his cousin is a part of Meta4 they released a really good song named Labello, one of the greatest and he was hooked. So he started writing rhymes and the following year he started making music with his producer being his Uncle King H Beats. It was a slow start as always but we gradually improved and here we are today.
