‘Noothgrush’ named themselves after a creature in a Dr. Seuss book, where a ‘noothgrush’ appeared on the main character’s toothbrush.

Oakland’s Noothgrush formed in 1994 and had a myriad of lineup changes, most notably Dino Sommese of Dystopia, Matt Harvey who has played guitar for Exhumed and Tom Choi who played guitar in Asbestosdeath before they rebranded themselves to Sleep.

Noothgrush was active from 1994 to 2001, then again from 2011-2018. During that time they released several collections and EPs but never any full-lengths. Lyrically, Noothgrush centered around pessimism and Star Wars. Their last known lineup consisted of Chiyo Nukaga, Gary Niederhoff, Russ Kent, and Dino Sommese.
