Nails (Grindcore)

Nails are a grindcore and powerviolence band reigning from Oxnard, California. The band formed in 2009 from the frontman Todd Jones, who was a former guitarists of the hardcore punk band Terror, alongside former bassist John Gianelli and former drummer Taylor Young.

The band is known for their eardrum rupturing blast beats and surprisingly groovy guitars and rhythms.

Since first forming the band, they released their debut EP Obscene Humanity and then would go onto release their debut album, Unsilent Death, on September 27, 2010. They would continue to release new music to which they would start to get recognition slowly but shortly. Nails would soon earn themselves a record deal with Nuclear Blast around 2014.

Entering into 2016, Nails would see their first huge success thanks to the third studio album, You Will Never Be One of Us, released on June 17. Standouts songs such as the album’s self titled track, “Friend to All,” and the eight minute “They Come Crawling Back” would see the rise of the band, to which they would earn themselves a spot on the Ozzfest meets Knotfest tour. However, on July 25, 2016, the band cancelled their European tour and cancelled their appearance at Ozzfest Meets Knotfest, to which Todd claimed that he had no plans to record or play live again.

From there, Nails slowly would release music, going onto release a collaboration EP with Full of Hell, as well as a couple more singles and would return to play at The Power of the Riff festival in December. Since then, Taylor Young and John Gianelli confirmed their departure of the band, leaving Todd to be the only member of the band, resulting in another indefinite hiatus.

Eight years after the release of You Will Never Be One of Us and five years after the release of their last single, as well as teasing a comeback in November 2023 through their Instagram page, 2024 would mark the comeback of the band, as they announced their fourth studio album, Every Bridge Burning, which saw a release on August 30, 2024. The band also recruited the new guitarist Shelby Lermo, drummer Carlos Cruz of Warbringer and new bassist Andrew Solis.
