Asanda Lusaseni, known professionally as Msaki, is a South African composer, singer and songwriter. Though widely recognised as a musician, her foundation lies in the visual arts. She trained in fine art, graphic design, film photography and curatorial practice at Rhodes University, Leeds University, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and East London Technikon.

Msaki is a South African Music Award (SAMA) winner and contributed as a writer, composer and artist to Black Coffee’s Grammy Award-winning album. Her career reflects both critical acclaim and artistic depth, rooted in interdisciplinary exploration.

Her current practice intentionally synthesises musical and visual expression. Msaki’s work increasingly merges installation and performance, creating immersive experiences that blur the lines between sound and space. This interdisciplinary approach was evident in the launch of her album Of Love in Protest at Nirox Sculpture Park in Johannesburg in 2022, and in her presentation of Ndiyozilanda at the National Arts Festival in 2023.

Parallel to building her career as an artist, Msaki has always been committed to building structures that support her deeper desire to serve. From the outset, her guiding philosophy has been: Build as you grow. Lift as you rise.
