Mofeez!
Dosunmu Akanbi AbdulHafeez, better known by his stage name Mofeez! (born October 18, 2005), is a Nigerian recording artist and songwriter from Lagos, Nigeria. His musical journey began at age twelve, when he started freestyling over type beats. Initially, music was just a hobby, and he went by the moniker “YoungBoy Choppa.” Under this name, he released his first track, “NOTHIN’ 2 PROVE,” in 2017, followed by another single, “BABYCLARA,” dedicated to his first heartbreak. Although he released a few tracks, they were eventually taken down for various reasons.
Mofeez! experimented with multiple stage names before settling on his current identity. After a four-year break, he reemerged in November 2020 with a track titled “INTRO” on YouTube. On February 14, 2021, he released “Ispy (with my eyes)” featuring Azta, which gained modest traction within and beyond his circle. This marked his official return, accompanied by his debut album, “Without You: I Can’t Hold It All Together.”
On April 12, 2022, Mofeez! released his second album, “Life of an Introvert,” an emotionally charged project that delves into his personal struggles, featuring raw tracks like “Feel Alone” and “Dead Inside.” Following its modest success, he released a slowed and reverb version of the album. He then dropped a third album, “Dear HighSchool,” reflecting on his high school experiences with songs like “IDGAF,” “Fake Friends,” and “Blowin’ up (2022 Freestyle).” This project recaps the ups and downs of adolescence and his dreams of achieving recognition.
Although his first two albums were mostly freestyles, Mofeez! began refining his lyrical skills to better communicate his thoughts. His fourth studio album, “HighSchool Szn,” became his most successful project, taking only four days to write and two days to record. Following this, he released “Who’s HighSchool Kid?” in July 2022, an 11-track album featuring popular collaborator YNL Choppe, including standout tracks like “Trust Issues pt. 2” and “Benjamin Franklin (Freestyle).” In the same week, he released “Once Upon a Time!!”, an album composed of songs recorded in 2020 and 2021 but officially released in 2022. He continued his prolific output with singles like “Dance in the Rain with Me” and “Die 4 You.”
Mofeez! continued to make his mark through collaborations with longtime friend $light, joining on numerous tracks like “run-through” and “Leak005.” In October 2022, he released the surprise album “celet!al,” featuring hit singles like “horny asf (freestyle).” That same month, he dropped “Untitled,” a collaborative project with Durrechh, and “Volume 17: New Chapter Unlocked,” which included tracks like “neverend,” “shima,” and “letter2psycho,” a heartfelt song dedicated to his ex-girlfriend and best friend.
By the end of 2022, Mofeez! had released nine albums in a single year, with three dropping within the month of October. After a brief break due to university commitments, he capped off 2022 with an EP titled “Final Destination.”
In January 2023, he dropped his single “Sharon” and the EP “The Hustle Never Sleeps,” which included “4.5 CGPA,” an introspective track. A surprise EP followed in March, titled “Surprise, Surprise Motherfuckers.” While he sporadically released singles on YouTube, he was mostly absent from the music scene until August 2023, when he dropped “HighSchool Szn 2,” including the hit track “Fine Girl,” which saw a sequel in October.
The future remains promising for Mofeez!, who is currently working on his fourteenth and fifteenth albums, slated for release in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Fans can also look forward to his first collaborative album with $light, titled “Now They Know Us,” scheduled for January 2024. With careful planning and a vision for his next chapters, Mofeez! is poised to keep pushing boundaries while pursuing healing and happiness.
